Sydney Contemporary, Paper 2025

This year marks our 10th year participating in the Sydney Contemporary Paper event, and we're celebrating with something a little different. In addition to showcasing our artists, we'll also be promoting our very own artist-run space, UPSpace Gallery.

You'll find us at Booth B10 at Carriageworks, Newtown. The booth will be staffed by members of our collective, so please stop by and say hello!

We're also excited to be joined by long-time friend of the Artist Collective, Seraphina Martin—a talented printmaker known for her work with the solar etching technique—as well as artist Anita Shirley. Anita’s studio is located at the Addison Road Community Centre. No stranger to this event, Anita previously exhibited with the Collective at Sydney Contemporary in 2023.

The UP Studio artists this year are made up of:

Therese Kenyon
Barbara Licha
Gail Kenning
Anie Nheu

Seraphina Martin. Cherished and Adored, 2025.

Anita Shirley. Moon night, 2025

Therese Kenyon. Lake St. Claire 1, 2025.

Barbara Licha. Sketch, 2024.

Gail Kenning. It's how we heal, 2025.

Anie Nheu. The wheels were in motion long before this, 2025

Felixe Rives and Alex McAlpin : Salon of Reflections

Felixe, a graduate of UNSW Art & Design, explores how inhabited spaces—and the elements within them—generate meaning and reflection for those who occupy them. As a member of the French diaspora, the concept of home features prominently in her solo exhibitions, which are grounded in strong conceptual frameworks.

For this event, Felixe is joined by her peer, artist, writer, and researcher Alex McAlpin. Alex’s work explores the potential for social change driven by the power of collective imagination.

Together, their contributions promise to stimulate and enrich a journey of discovery, reflection, and revelation.

Eleonora Pasti : Political Matter

Eleonora Pasti came to us in March this year.  Since then she has immersed herself in the creative environment of Ultimo Project Studios. Over the past two months, her unwavering dedication to her vision has culminated in a collection of soft sculptures that reflect her deep engagement with the studio space.

Her upcoming exhibition, POLITICAL MATTER, opening on April 24th, showcases how her works have transformed and enriched our perception of this shared space. Through a striking interplay of texture, color, and form, Eleonora's sculptures encapsulate the hidden sensuous qualities of the studio, inviting viewers to experience the space through her unique sensory lens.

This exhibition promises to be a captivating exploration of artistic expression and the intimate relationship between the artist and her surroundings.

In her words:

Every time I open the door of the UPspace studios, I am permeated by a smell of old theatre, the kind of space that is in danger of extinction. My sculptures, of old textiles and found and rescued objects, speak of this atmosphere suspended between indifference and oblivion. What lies beneath the surface of our existences? UPspace is for me an Underspace, full of wonders and surprises.

Some images of the works you'll expect to see.
